Spatiotemporal control of nanooptical excitations

 

In their work the AG Bauer and cooperation partners from Würzburg, Kaiserlautern, and Bielefeld experimentally demonstrate ultrafast switching of nanoscale-localized light-fields. The figure illustrates the interaction of a specifically designed femtosecond light pulse with a metallic (star-shaped) nanostructure, resulting in the spatio-temporal

control of light fields on nanometer length- and femtosecond timescales.
