Kinetic Properties of Heavy Ions at 1 AU

Heavy ions are heated by wave-particle interactions in the inner heliosphere, resulting in different kinetic properties of heavy ions depending on their intrinsic properties, especially their charge-to-mass ratio, but also on solar wind type, especially density. The aim of this work is to investigate the kinetic properties of heavy ions using the PLASTIC instrument on STEREO and SWICS on ACE to find out whether it is possible to infer the average power-spectral density of waves in the inner heliosphere.

This work requires good programming skills and a solid physics background.
