The Lunar Lander Neutrons and Dosimetry Experiment (LND) is foreseen to land on the Moon as part of China’s next lunar mission, Chang’E4. It will provide information about the radiation environment on the lunar surface as a crucial prerequisite to human exploration of the Moon. Figure 1 shows the sensor head and electronics box of LND. The design with a separate sensor head and electronics box was driven by the requirement to keep the sensor head as cool as possible in the challenging thermal environment of the Chang’E4 lander.
